weekend update April 26-27, 2008

By

another week of small steps forward folks….

both CNW 7700 doors are in and the car got itself air tested for the season. all is well and the first passenger car of the year is “on the road”

a set of photos of the new doors and install are in the irm webpage

other bits of news include:

the DMIR 84 windows nearing completion for install in May, thanks to Chuck Trabert

the BLE 25 window is in final varnish and should be ready to give back to Mark Hoffman for install next weekend

IC 3345 is almost done with the metal work on one side, so its almost time to turn it around and give Andy Townsend a whole new frame to fix.

We now have a steel cabinet outside the barn to store paint, which will allow us to further clear out the center aisle of Barn 3 and perhaps make it a bit more user friendly for shop work

No more movement on the Yard 5 issue for the moment, as we await the securing of a couple of boxcar contents. Once complete, the rest of the freight cars should move, making room for the long wheelbase stuff in 10/11 to get out of the way of the construction team. Getting the RDC out of the middle is really the only delay in getting tthe streamliner cars out into their new spot. We will be without electricity for a bit until Max gets the time, but we will be around and busy doing all the prep work for several weeks, so everyone is welcome to stop in of they are in the neighborhood.

With a bit of luck, in the next couple of weeks, we will also be able to swap the display track around and get Galt House back in the middle of the set so we can make a complete walkthrough again. Shelly and help made a good deal of progress in getting the car cleaned up for show.

The other significant plan for Barn 3 this year is to get the railing in front of the Susan Marie opened up so we can make it possible to access the car as well. Currently we plan to have three cars open on that track, and soon add the dover to the show. We want to brag on all the work being done by Bob Hunter and help from Mark Hoffman and Roger Kramer.

This coming weekend is scrapbook weekend, so here we go! time to put on a show!

Everyone is welcome. Come one Come all! Stop by and say Hi, lend a hand or a dollar (or both).

 Lots happening.
